Fleuve Adour

Walking, fishing, canoeing and picnic tables are the attractions on the banks of the Adour at Saint-Sever. This river, born in the valley of Campan des Pyrénées, flows since 1578 into Bayonne, after having changed its mouth, through time and the hand of man. The Adour was navigable from Saint-Sever, which had its port, to Bayonne. From the 11th century until around 1930, the barges carried the fruits of the land to the sea: wines and wheat from Chalosse and Tursan, timber and Armagnac brandy. The fishermen caught shad, carp, Atlantic salmon, lamprey, eels and pike, sea trout and even sturgeon until the second half of the 20th century. And nowadays all fish.
